Italia A332 departed despite ground collision

On June 17th 2022, an ITA A330-200, registration EI-EJL performing flight AZ 611, struck an Air France B777-200, registration F-GSPQ while taxiing for departure at New York JFK.

When contacted by ATC, the A330 was climbing already. The crew replied they had no damage and continued the flight Rome Fiumicino without further incident. Details of the specific damage and its severity were not disclosed. However, the aircraft subsequently remained on the ground for 46 hours.

The B777 stayed on the ground at JFK until July 12th.

The NTSB rated the occurrence as an accident due to the substantial damage.
